Citroën Oli [all-ë]’s mission is to inspire the future of affordable, sustainable and joyful family mobility

Meet Oli. Citroen’s latest ‘wouldn’t it be great if’ concept that looks like a moon buggy that the rocket dropped from orbit, but the thinking is deeply down to earth. It tackles the major elephant in the room questions for electric cars, and manufacturing overall. The windscreen is flat because that uses less glass than a curved one. Aero isn’t important in town. What if we’ve gone wrong with supersized lithium-hungry batteries? The Oli’s is just 40kWh. But that’s good enough for 248 miles of range – twice the endurance of a Honda e for only 14 per cent more capacity – because it weighs half a tonne less. The Oli comes in at only 1,000kg, thanks to less soundproofing (EVs are already quiet), and a roof, bonnet and truck bed made from polyurethane-coated cardboard. So it’s waterproof, as strong as steel, but half the mass. And recyclable. It also drives. The innovative Ami demonstrated how Citroën dares to do things differently to meet its commitment of making straightforward all-electric transportation available to all. It also provided the stimulus for oli, a striking and innovative ‘laboratory on wheels’ designed to move the needle for family mobility by bucking industry trends for heavier, more complex and expensive electric cars. “We called this project ‘oli’ as a nod to Ami, and because it sums up what the vehicle is all about – further proof that only Citroën can deliver no-nonsense, ALL-Electric mobility to ALL kinds of people in unexpected, responsible and rewarding ways,” says Citroën CEO, Vincent Cobée. It is Citroën’s guiding light: an adventurous, multi-faceted manifesto of clever and achievable ideas focused on reducing weight and complexity to maximise efficiency, versatility and accessibility. oli is a destination, in which the trend for ‘more’ is exchanged for the constructive ‘enough’: “as much as you need or is necessary”. Hot Rod Racing with Belly Tankers

Alex Xydias (March 22, 1922 – August 24, 2024) was an American hot rodder, racing driver and land speed racer, active in the early days of auto racing. Alex Xydias, Hot Rodding Icon, Dies at 102 Years Old

Hot Rod legend and founder of SO-CAL Speed Shop, Alex Xydias (3/22/1922 – 8/24/2024). In 1946, immediately after Xydias was discharged from the United States Army Air Corps, he opened the So-Cal Speed Shop in Burbank, one of the first hot rod speed shops in Southern California. In 1950, he drove the first streamliner (made, with help from Dean Batchelor,[1] from a drop tank)[2] powered by a Flathead Ford V-8 60.[3][4] The Xydias-Batchlor tank, named the So-Cal Streamliner (wearing #5), would earn them SCTA‘s first Hot Rod Trophy (for top speed of the meet) at the 1949 Bonneville Nationals, with a speed of 193.54 mph (311.47 km/h), and put them on the cover of Hot Rod in October that year.[5] It would be the first flatty-powered tank to exceed 200 mph (322 km/h),[citation needed] thanks in part to running 40 percent nitro.[6]

Xydias was the founder of the Alex Xydias & Pete Chapouris Center for the Automotive Arts at the Pomona Fairplex https://fairplex.com/tlcfairplex/ctec/ which offers a two-year program in the automotive arts. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum.

Xydias turned 100 in March 2022,[7] and died in Southern California on August 24, 2024, at the age of 102.[8]
